Many fans were let down earlier this autumn, when Oliver Sykes announced that Bring Me the Horizon’s new album Nex Gen was not going to be released on September 15th due to ”unforeseen circumstances”. Luckily, the fanbase was offered some relief as a new single was later released on the 18th of October.
DArkSide seems to be following the overall sound of the other releases, later to be discovered on the album. DArkSide is a song telling a story of anxiety, bad feelings and the fear of letting the dark thoughts win. ”Hey, I’m begging you to stay, my dark side won today, my heart keeps breaking over and over” ”Can you talk me off the ledge again?” – These haunting lyrics combined with Oliver Sykes’ vocals and the fresh, rock-toned, electronic sound of the band make DArkSide into a song, that you will want to loop-listen to. Sadly, the song was not as heavy as AmEN! which reminded me of the good old ”Suicide Season” times. The song was catchy and had all the essential elements for a BMTH song – but still left me longing for more to come.
Nevertheless, BMTH is without a doubt one of the most anticipated bands to perform in Finland next summer. Headlining both at Tuska and Provinssi, it is likely, that we can hear the contents of the new album up-close and personal. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy of the entrées before the main course, patiently waiting for the new album and the long-awaited aggressive sounds.
